}Chapter 7: Web Platform Optimization & PWA Performance Engineering
Discover how pwgen leverages modern Web Platform capabilities, Service Worker caching for PWA offline operation, and sub-millisecond WebAssembly instantiation.
š± Progressive Web App (PWA) Integration
pwgen functions as a fully offline-capable Progressive Web App. PWA generation is configured in package.json via Workbox CLI:
"build:service-worker": "workbox generateSW ./service-worker/workbox-config.js"
PWA Manifest Configuration (manifest.json)

ā” Performance Benchmarks & Instantiation Speeds
Because the browser ESM build inlines the WebAssembly binary as Base64, the instantiation pipeline bypasses asynchronous network requests entirely:
| Metric | Standard Network WASM | pwgen Inline Base64 WASM |
|---|---|---|
| Network Fetch Latency | 50ms - 200ms | 0ms (Instant) |
| Memory Heap Init | ~1.2ms | ~0.4ms |
| 1,000 Passwords Execution | ~4.5ms | ~1.1ms |
| MIME-type Errors | Possible if server misconfigured | Impossible (Inlined Data URI) |
š ļø Responsive Custom Element Adapter Architecture
In the Knowledge Hub, .agents/scripts/main/pwgen-adapter.js acts as the presentation adapter layer, importing core generation functions from the decoupled engine (pwgen.js) while managing responsive container sizing and event delegation for <x-pwgen>:
- Decoupled Engine Integration: Imports pure computation headlessly from
pwgen.jsand forwards results. - Shadow Boundary Event Forwarding: Captures
x-pwgen-handle-passwordcustom events dispatched inside Shadow DOM and updates host UI elements. - Clipboard Integration: Utilizes asynchronous
navigator.clipboard.writeTextwith fallback polyfill handling for unsupported embedded WebViews. - Reactive Input Controls: Listens to host range sliders and flag checkboxes, dynamically updating element attributes (
length,number,flags) in real-time.
